RAC Workgroup Efforts Focused on Vaccines and Vaccination

The Resilient American Communities (RAC) Vaccines and Vaccination Group is examining and acting on the issues surrounding vaccines development, distribution, vaccination logistics and execution, as well as vaccination strategy, safety, efficacy, trust, and hesitancy. Special attention is currently focused on COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination.

Hospital fire kills 18 virus patients as India steps up jabs NEW DELHI (AP) — A fire in a COVID-19 hospital ward in western India killed 18 patients early Saturday, as the country grappling with the worst outbreak yet stepped up a vaccination drive for all adults even as some states said they don't have enough jabs. India on Saturday set yet another daily global record with 401,993 new cases, taking its tally to more than 19.1 million. Another 3,523 people died in the past 24 hours, raising the overall fatalities to 211,853, according to the Health Ministry. Experts believe both figures are an undercount.

Analysis: Vaccine Skepticism is More Than a Lack of Knowledge Problem. It’s Actually About Gut Beliefs.

For years, scientists and doctors have treated vaccine skepticism as a knowledge problem. If patients were hesitant to get vaccinated, the thinking went, they simply needed more information.

But as public health officials now work to convince Americans to get Covid-19 vaccines as quickly as possible, new social science research suggests that a set of deeply held beliefs is at the heart of many people’s resistance, complicating efforts to bring the coronavirus pandemic under control.

“The instinct from the medical community was, ‘If only we could educate them,’” said Dr. Saad Omer, director of the Yale Institute for Global Health, who studies vaccine skepticism. “It was patronizing and, as it turns out, not true.”
