Re: [racwebsite] Conversation about the 10-12 pager

Primary tabs

I am concerned about catching things that CDC Foundation people will definitely question, like the statement that RAC sites can be established and run by  natural leaders working with volunteers. We have no such magic.

People who have worked with natural leaders and volunteers know that it would take 2 to 3 years to get them to deliver what is in our materials saying what we can do without civic leader participation and institutional support.

Please let me know when It makes sense for me to be engaged in this draft process. I am most interested in making sure that what is described is what we have systems to support and that we are very clear about necessary preconditions to support deliverables.

There are a couple of disciplines that have loaded vocabulary terms of art that we want interdisciplinary eyeballs on.

David,

I agree.  This is very important.  Can we talk about this at 10 AM on Sunday or the next convenient time for those who are interested can participate?  We we settle on a day and time, I will send out Zoom information.  I would suggest that we also look at other RAC content deliverables in the same meeting.

Yes,  Janice, I share your concern about what we can offer.

This was very much on my mind when I composed the following email that was sent in response to call for participation by a local intergovernmental group that is seeking to develop a response to  COVID.

I am wondering if it can provide a framework for a magazine-like 10-pager (text and images)  that fleshes out the origins, syndemic implications, a real-world implementation,  current adoption and the vision of renewal/regeneration.

Thanks,

David

Dear Mr. Sanchez,

I am responding to the call for participants in the Enchanted Circle Intergovernmental COVID discussions that appeared in the Taos news on December 22, 2020.

Because of my prior work with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement,  several months ago I was invited to join a remarkable
team of individuals whose vision is to lower the incidence of 500,000 or more COVID deaths predicted to occur here in the US in the next 6 months.

That core team consists of individuals who are part of larger organizations that have worked with outbreaks of Ebola and Cholera, with environmental issues and
Hurricanes in the South, and developed
 The
Practical Playboo
k - a book that you may know is a widely respected guide to community engagement and development. The network has grown significantly
since I joined.

The network’s initial focus is on using the community resilience model to help communities respond to COVID.  As
you are no doubt aware, COVID is bringing to light racial and economic disparities.
  People
of color, the poor, and the homeless are dying disproportionately.
  Experience
has shown that the collaborating groups that form resilient communities discover untapped strengths to bring to bear on these disparities.

The Resilient American Community (RAC) network brought COVID-data visualization tools, maps, apps and resilience-building methods to a pilot community in Florida.  The
network developed, and
 then
the community conducted
  a
COVID-focused serious game which gave them a stress-test view of their community infrastructure.
  Group-initiated
surveys illuminated local areas developing food insecurity, and locations without access to testing.

Today, through churches, private groups and local governments the Florida Resilient American Community COVID information that is trusted.  More
importantly, through tools that the RAC provides they are assessing, on a weekly basis, COVID cases, deaths, and the impact that the virus has on the business community in order to focus mitigation relief efforts.

I am part of a national effort to springboard the introduction of the Resilient American Community Approach to COVID into communities across the nation.  I
have included two documents, one short, and one long, that will give you views of this model.

Because COVID deaths are increasing rapidly, I wonder if it would be possible for me to make a presentation about bringing the resources of the Resilient American
Community, which are free, to the Enchanted Circle Group in the near future.
