Federal judge temporarily blocks Iowa from banning school mask mandates

A federal judge temporarily blocked Iowa from banning mask mandates in local school districts.

U.S. District Judge Robert Pratt issued a temporary restraining order Monday in a signed opinion, writing that the state's law "substantially increases" the risk of several children with health conditions being infected with COVID-19. 

"The Court recognizes issuing a TRO is an extreme remedy, however, if the drastic increase in the number of pediatric COVID-19 cases since the start of the school  year in Iowa is any indication of what is to come, such an extreme remedy is necessary to ensure that the children involved in this case are not irreparably harmed," Pratt wrote. ...
